Connecticut Foreclosure Report: 2026 Filings by Town
Updated September 2026. Every month we count new foreclosure cases filed in Connecticut Superior Court and break them down by town and county. The numbers come straight from the Connecticut Judicial Branch’s public civil case records. Homeowners, reporters, and town officials are welcome to use them; please credit and link to this page.
Key findings
- 3,061 foreclosure cases were filed in Connecticut from January 1 to September 25, 2026.
- The most filings were in Waterbury (136), Bridgeport (115) and Stamford (115).
- Hartford County had the most filings of any county (713), then Fairfield (658) and New Haven (591).
- 160 of Connecticut’s 169 towns had at least one foreclosure filed this year.
New filings by month, 2026
September is left off until the month is complete (287 filed through September 25, 2026). Counts are cases found in court records when we pulled them; a case withdrawn soon after filing can drop out, so earlier months may read slightly low.

What these numbers mean if you are a homeowner
A foreclosure filing is the start of the court process, not the end. In Connecticut most owner-occupied homes qualify for the court’s free Foreclosure Mediation Program, and the process usually takes many months. Housing counselors approved by HUD are free, and the CHFA Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program may help if you lost income. If keeping the house no longer makes sense, selling before the sale date can protect your equity and your credit. Read our Connecticut foreclosure help guide for every option.

How we count
We search the Connecticut Judicial Branch civil case inquiry for foreclosure cases with a 2026 docket number, town by town across all 169 towns, and count each docket number once. The town is the property’s town as listed in the case. 329 cases (11%) had no property town listed and are counted only in the statewide total. Village names are rolled into their town (for example, Unionville into Farmington). This is our own count and may differ slightly from official Judicial Branch statistics.
